Weekend reminders

Two optional notifications a week: the cocktail of the day on Friday evening and what your bar can make on Saturday.

Weekend reminders are two optional notifications a week: the cocktail of the day on Friday evening, and how many drinks your bar can make on Saturday. They’re off until you turn them on.

What you get

When Title Message
Friday, 6 p.m. Cocktail of the day “Tonight: drink. Tap to mix it.”
Saturday, 1 p.m. Your bar “N cocktails you can make this weekend.”

Times are your local time. The Friday drink is that day’s cocktail of the day, the same one on Home and on the widget.

In the first week of a holiday shelf, such as Halloween or Christmas, the Friday reminder announces the shelf instead, with the holiday’s name as its title: “A Halloween shelf just landed — cocktails for the occasion.” Only holiday shelves are announced, not the seasons, and only holidays that apply to your language or region. See Collections and seasonal shelves.

The Saturday reminder counts only drinks you can open. Without Sakaba Plus, that’s the free recipes and your own. If your bar can’t make any of those, the Saturday reminder is skipped. So you never get more than two a week.

Turn them on

In Sakaba, tap the gear at the top left of Home to open Settings, then turn on Notifications. iOS asks for permission the first time; tap Allow.

Sakaba may also ask you itself. On a later visit, never the first launch, a card titled Notifications? explains the reminders, with Enable reminders and Not now. It appears only once, and only if you haven’t decided yet. If you tap Not now, you can still turn reminders on in Settings at any time.

Turn them off

Turn off Notifications in Sakaba’s Settings. Sakaba cancels the upcoming reminders and clears any that are still in Notification Center.

You can also turn off notifications for Sakaba in your iPhone’s Settings app, under Apps → Sakaba → Notifications. The switch in Sakaba then shows off too.

If the switch won’t turn on

If you turn on Notifications and Sakaba says Allow notifications in iOS Settings first, notifications for Sakaba were turned off at some point. Open your iPhone’s Settings app, go to Apps → Sakaba → Notifications, and turn on Allow Notifications. Back in Sakaba, the switch is ready to turn on.

Where a tap takes you

  • The Friday drink opens its recipe.
  • A holiday announcement opens that shelf, even after the holiday has ended.
  • The Saturday count opens My Bar. See What can I make.

Good to know

  • The Saturday number can be a little behind. Sakaba writes it when it schedules the reminders: when the app starts, each time you leave it, and when you switch language or Sakaba Plus starts or ends. If your bar changed on another device, the number updates after you next use Sakaba on this one.
  • They run about eight weeks ahead. Each time you use Sakaba it schedules the next eight weekends, so if you don’t open the app for about two months, the reminders stop until you do.
  • Language. Reminders use the language you chose in Sakaba. Cocktail names keep their original spelling.
  • Stays on your device. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone itself; nothing is sent from a server.
